Today is also a special day, because it’s the birthday of my oldest daughter Askin. Happy Birthday sweetheart!
This morning Paul left to Winnipeg. He’s going to play football in a training camp. I was very happy to hear from him after he arrived safe and sound and he just had his first football training when he called me. He had a good trip but was tired of course. Not easy to drive for 6 hours and then play football in the heat of 26c. But I’m sure tomorrow he will do much better after a good night sleep.
After Paul left this morning, I got my things ready and went to the acreage with Scruffy. Taz and Dizzy were so happy to see me. Dizzy wouldn’t leave me alone of course. I put down food and refreshed their water. It was cute to see how Taz came to smell the food, and then let Dizzy eat first. She still acts like a good momma to her kitten, even though Dizzy is over 7 months now. Dizzy eats like she is starved. LOL But she gets plenty of food. Once she had enough, Taz sat down and ate. I started to do some work at the cabin. There are still 6 gaps to close at the north side. Paul and I started and did 5 of them. I put in all the screws that will hold the pieces of wood. Dizzy climbed up the ladder with me but after I put her down a few times, she would lay on the ground next to the ladder. A little dangerous with a kitten hanging around your legs while you’re trying to keep balance. Hahaha! I made sure I would give her lots of cuddles and carrying her around a bit so now and then. She really likes the attention. It was warm in the cabin so I opened all windows and a nice breeze cooled it a little. Lots of black flies and some wasps were in the cabin but they didn’t bother me. They found their way out later. I found a nice size osb sheet and could measure all 6 boards on it. Next time I will cut the pieces out and screw them in place in the gaps. I worked for 2 hours in the cabin.
After, I did some garden work. The barrels were full enough with rain water and I could give everything a good soak. Then I hilled everything, used 2.5 bag of garden soil. Especially the potato plants got lots of soil. I hope to get lots of potatoes in the fall this way. I got one tiny water melon growing! It looks SO cute. My zucchini plants are doing great too. Lots of fruit on it. I can’t wait for my cucumbers to grow. They are blooming now. I don’t have many tomatoes, but the 3 plants I got are doing ok and have some tomatoes on them. The corn has their fluffy things and flowers. I really hope with the extra soil things will get a good grow spurt. Now I hope for some rain soon. Get my barrels full again. But it seems no rain until Sunday so I probably have to haul some water in before that.
When I was done with all the chores, I wanted to put Scruffy in the truck but the door was locked. Dizzy must have been in the truck again. She does that sometimes. I leave the windows half way open so it won’t get too hot in there, and Dizzy likes to climb in, but then will hit the locks with her feet. Hahaha! Lucky I leave the windows open so I can unlock it again. I gave the cats some cat treats but Dizzy didn’t come to the deck like Taz. Then I noticed she was sitting under the back of the truck. She heard me calling her but didn’t want to come. She was just staring at me. So I went to her and showed her the cat treats and then she came running right away. I made sure both cats were on the deck when I left. I like to see where they are when I drive away. I’m always scared they will get under the truck. But they stayed on the deck and Dizzy went in the cabin when I drove off.
Tomorrow I will get some Dutch friends over for a visit. They live in Regina but were camping at Madge Lake and will visit before they drive back home. It’s a long time ago we’ve seen each other so I’m really looking forward to it. It will be fun!
