The truck was loaded with stuff when I went to the acreage. I had some rocks, bags with garden soil, some peat moss, garden tool holder and then all the seedlings. I unloaded as soon I arrived and put all the plants in the shade in the back of the cabin. It was the perfect day to plant my seedlings into the garden.
I planted like 40 Red Scarlet Runner Bean seeds all over the yard. I had them soaked very well so I hope they will germinate soon. I made my own seed pods. I used toilet paper rolls. I fold one side until it’s closed and then filled it up with soil. Put in a seed, covered it with more soil, dug a little hole in the ground and put the seed pot in there. I also had some paper towel rolls, and I cut those in 3 parts. I put some newspaper for the bottom instead of folding the ends and that works too. I hope the bean seeds will get a good start with these. I also tried cup cake holders, but that is tricky. It spreads out too easy with the big bean seeds. I suppose for a tiny seed it would work fine. I planted a lot of beans next to the stairs. It would be nice if the beans climb up the railing and i can put a trellis against it too if they do well. Humming birds love the red flowers. I could sit on the deck and watch them eating from the red flowers. Would be so cool. I also filled a flowerpot with soil and put in the last 6 beans I had left, for on the deck.
It was much cooler today. After a while the sky clouded over and then it started to rain. Very wet while gardening. Hahaha! But nothing beats planting young plants in the garden while it drizzles, when it has been so warm and dry for so long.
I have planted 10 tomato plants, 10 peppers, 7 Green Curly Kale, 5 cabbages, and 5 Pumpkins. I still have to plant out the sunflowers, and some other plants I took from the house, but no time anymore today. I got some other flower seeds too and a blue grass seed. Maybe Sunday I have some time to seed those. But first I have to finish my seedlings. I still have red and white cabbage in the house, and all the herbs.
While I was going back and forth to the cabin I noticed a couple of Red Robins in the yard. Looking for bugs on the ground. But they were really keeping an eye on me when I was sitting on the deck. So cute. When I went planting in the back of the cabin, they followed me and stayed close by. Very curious birds. I took a lot of pictures and some of them came out really nice.
The day flew by. When I drove home, I passed the 2 ponds and noticed a couple of geese had a whole bunch of tiny little chicks. Aw! So cute! I couldn’t stop for pictures because the road is really bad there right now, and I didn’t want to get stuck. Maybe next time after it’s grated. The goose that was nesting at the side of the road there, is gone and also her nest. It was just not the right spot. With the grater coming by at times, it just will get buried in grid.
After supper I went to see David and his neighbour. She is keeping a garage sale and had eaves troughs with the down spouts and material to put it all up. I bought everything for not even 18 dollars! Not a bad deal at all. It will be great to collect all the rain water into the barrels. I also found a nice bathroom cupboard. It was a little pricy but David paid half, as a house warming gift. So nice! Thanks David. Also for the help to get the eaves troughs cut smaller so I could get them in the truck.
David told me there was a frost warning out for our area. Ugh, just when I planted out my seedlings! Darn. I hope the straw that I have put around the plants, will give lots of protection against the cold wind tonight. It would be really sad if I would loose my young plants. So I just keep my fingers crossed that they will survive this nasty little cold spell. I should have known better. It’s planting out on May 27 when it’s full moon or just around that date, or wait for the full moon when it comes in June. I forgot about the full moon and this year it’s in June. Oh well. Nothing to do about it now. Just have to wait and see if my plants survive.
It was a wonderful day, and I just loved it to spend the whole day outside in the garden. It makes me happy. :-)
