I shovelled the yard and cleaned the snow off the truck. It was lovely to be outside and the hard work of removing snow felt great. I love snow. It makes everything so still.
In the afternoon I went to the well. I have 22 bottles, and I took the 12 empty ones to fill up. I put the bottles in the back of the truck and put a piece of snow fence over them and hooked the snow fence to the truck sides. That way the bottles couldn't fly away. It takes 1 minute to fill one bottle, so that didn`t take long.
Bringing the bottles into the cabin is another story. A lot of work to carry those heavy bottles up the stairs. And if I had waited 10 minutes, Paul could have helped me. He arrived just when I was all done. Hahaha!
Paul stayed for supper and he cut some kindling for me. He brought me a bottle of wine and a salt block for the horses. AND an iced cappuccino! Mmmmm! He also gave me a box of cork flooring. Not sure where to put it but I sure can use it somewhere! Thanks Paul! Also thanks for the lesson of how to cut real small kindling. It was a real nice visit.
Flicka is one naughty pony sometimes. She started to play with the water system again so I took all the wood away and when I fill up the bowl with water, I just put the gutter into the bowl and when done I will take it out and lay it out of her reach.
Monday I went with Sheri to Yorkton. We planned on being back way before dark but she wanted to get some extra things so it took much longer and it was way after dark when I got back at the cabin. I noticed I didn`t see the horses anywhere, and then I saw the fence was broken.
I parked the truck with the head lights to the pen, and then Freya came walking by the truck, followed by Flicka. I went to say hi and took them into the round pen where I locked them in for the night.
The reason they got out is because the horses are used to our routine of being fed before dark, so when I wasn`t there, they thought to get it themselves. They ate half of the bag with crunchies and a half bale of hay, if not more. Lucky they didn`t get hurt as I have lots of high tensile wire laying in the flower garden. It`s out of the walk way but still.
Thy also didn`t damaged anything so that was good.
Tuesday I put electric wire up at the part where the horses came through and made it hot. The solar charger needs to be charged so for now I have the horses back in the summer pasture and arena. I feed and water them there. I have to say, with all that snow they hardly drink! Amazing. I bring one bucket of water in the morning and one in the evening and it still freezes over at night. When they got into the summer pasture, they started to run and galloped and bucked, so happy to be out of the pen. It was nice to see them running through the snow.
Wednesday we got a LOT of snow! Around 30 cm I guess. Wow, that is a lot. But how beautiful. I love it!
I cleaned the snow of the truck and around the truck and in front of the cabin. I made paths to the wood shed and compost bin too, plus a path to the arena. It was great to be outside working. I took breaks of course, because snow shovelling is hard work. But fun to do.
I bought some more hay from Sheri, because I still didn`t get my round bales in. She invited me for supper, and it was lovely. Thanks Sheri! After we went to the cabin and unloaded the hay, and then had a nice visit in my cabin.
Last night I soaked some little laundry and this morning I rinsed it and hung it up to dry. I did my chores and then made a beet salad. Very tasty!
Around 3 pm the snow plough came to clean the driveway and my yard. YAY! It`s all done and I can walk everywhere again without effort. Walking through deep snow is nice but tiresome.
Before sunset I fed the horses their hay again, and gave some carrots and crunchies. They should be fine for the night.
Last night it was minus 16 C and tonight it will be minus 14 C. But the sky is clear, there is not much wind, and the moon is beautiful full!
I can`t wait for the sunrise. Didn`t see the sun for a while and my lights need a good charge.
Before I got a chance to ad this to my blog, my hay arrived. YAY! I got seven 1300 pound bales and one round straw bale. This should be enough for the winter. If not, then I can get more.
I`m very happy!
