I’m so happy! I’m not very good at trailering horses but Wendy, the lady where I boarded my ponies during one winter, was willing to do the job for me. She is a very kind and skilled horse woman and handles my horses very well. Going in and out of the trailer went smooth without any incidents.
For the night I let Flicka and Freya in the outdoor arena. There was lots of grass to eat. Freya was right away eating, but Flicka was restless. She missed her herd friends. It’s not easy to take a horse from their herd and it will take a while for her to settle. I stayed overnight so I could keep an eye on the girls. I had a restless night too. All the excitement of my first night in the cabin and my horses being there also for the first time since 2 summers ago. Scruffy got into the cabin too for the first time. I think she liked it. She slept deep and snored loud. LOL The cats stayed on the deck most of the night. It was raining a lot but on the deck it stays dry. Before I went to bed, I had a few glasses of wine and chips with a dip. I listened to nice jazz music on the radio. Hm, long time ago I enjoyed the radio in the evening. Most of the time it is while driving on the roads. At 10 pm I was beat and slept good until 2 am. Then I woke up and had some ice tea and a pee. I got this portable bucket toilet for now, because I only use it at night. During the day I use the washroom in the 5th wheel.
I woke up early and it was so nice to look out of the window and see them grazing and enjoying the morning sun. I went to say hello to them. Freya wanted to be petted right away, but Flicka was still some nervous and walking around a lot. I made myself a coffee and enjoyed it on the deck, watching my ponies drying up from the nights rain. After my coffee I took the horses to the small pasture. Lots of grass there. In the arena there wasn’t much left after those two going after it. LOL I walked with them while they explored. But I think they do remember the place, because soon they were just grazing and Freya even laid down a few times for a rest.
I went to clean up the manure in the arena. My first fertilizer for the garden next year. I did some little things, made another cup of coffee, took care of cats and dog, but most of the time I was with the horses. When Flicka looked really calm and relaxed, I went home with the dog. I needed to get some things for the night, and also wanted to plug my phone in again. I charged it a few times with the generator running, but I have to get a new battery for it, because it doesn’t charge fast anymore. And I need a phone there!
Last week I worked a lot under the cabin. I started to tape all that moisture barrier that the crew had to cut open to let the water out that was collecting. That was before the roof was on, so rain had free game at my flooring. I discovered mold in a few places. Ugh. Not good. So I bought some mold killer/remover and soon will get that done.
To save the bad news for last.....my electrician Marcel passed away last week. It came as a shock to me when my friend Sharon called me to tell me the bad news. He had a stroke. Now I thought he was a little confused, because he made some mistakes while wiring my cabin that he even mentioned to me. I remember him saying that he couldn’t believe he didn’t tape off something, but it was all taken care of now. When I heard of his passing, I thought it was a stroke. Maybe he had a little one before that made him confused. Anyway, it was terrible news and my heart goes out to his family and friends during this hard time. Marcel was a very kind and friendly man.
