Wednesday morning I got up at 5 am. After doing my chores, I painted the wall that borders the bathroom. Just a simple white. I was done around 10.30 am, and at 11 Sheri came to fit a saddle on Flicka. Well, the western saddle she had with her, wasn’t what I wanted. Very stiff and I couldn’t feel the movements of Flicka. Flicka has this extra little gait, that I can only feel well with an English saddle or even better, bareback. Sheri went to get another saddle, and that was a treeless dressage saddle. Well that was much better and NOW I could feel Flicka’s extra gait. So I hope to trade a saddle set I have but not using it for this saddle. It was also very nice to ride again after not riding for hm...what is it...a year or so? Maybe longer. Flicka is really good and you won’t know she wasn’t ridden such a long time. Besides being a little stiff maybe, she behaved just the same like I rode her daily. Such a great pony!
That evening I went for my evening walk with dog , cats and the horses following us alongside the fence. I saw the foxes. So cute! Suddenly my horses seem to hear something, and then I heard a pony calling from the road. My horses of course started to run and calling back, very excited. Back in the cabin I texted my neighbour to let her know her horses were loose on the road. She asked me to help to find them, as they were all 6 gone and it was getting dark already. After driving around for 45 minutes we still didn’t find them and it got so dark so we couldn’t see a much more then what was on the road. In the morning she let me know they were back so that was good.
I fixed the gate of the small pen. It wasn’t easy, as it is a heavy gate, but I got the job done and it’s working great.
I made a salad with lettuce from the garden for supper. It tasted great. Last night I wanted to go for a walk, but wow, the bugs were terrible! Even though I had bug repellent on, they were swarming around me like crazy. So after 5 minutes, I went back to the cabin. I was back maybe for a few minutes, when I heard Flicka calling and thinking about the mosquitos, I got the repellent, and walked over to the pasture. I called them and they came running right away. Of course covered in bugs. Poor horses. I sprayed them all over, and they both gave a sigh of relief. They stayed close by the cabin, resting.
While I was sitting on the deck, where the mosquitos were not so bad, I noticed a night hawk. Hard to make a photo of it, as he (or she) flies real fast. I also noticed an owl flying over. You just don’t hear them fly, they are so quiet. Also a bat came flying over the yard, catching bugs. Then I heard horses galloping. I looked at my horses, and they were looking towards the road, then started to run that direction. I saw 6 horses barging through the bush where my new driveway entrance will come, running right onto my driveway, next to the fence of my horses. My neighbours horses again. So I texted her, that her horses were all here again. But she got them fast this time so glad they got back safe.
I enjoyed the peace and quiet again on the deck with another glass of wine, watching the beautiful reddish moon. It’s almost full and because of all the forest fires in the USA, bringing smoke this way, sun and moon look orange red again. This morning there was a thick mist hanging around the yard. It sure does give beautiful pictures with that orange sun shining through it.
