I dug a new human waste deposit hole and will dug another one so I’m ready for winter. Once the ground is frozen, I can’t dig anymore right? So it’s nice to get it all done. While digging I found a snake skin but forgot to take a picture of it. Hahaha. To busy working I suppose. Later I picked the stalks of the spinach, so I can dry the seeds. I put the stalks with seeds in a cardboard box and put them in the white shelter to dry. It will be great to have the seeds for next Spring. I also am drying the seeds of one celery plant that popped up in the garden.
I cleaned the plastic box I use in the ‘cool room’. Nothing in there but I want to start using it again. Then I build an insulated ‘door’ from a wooden pallet. I stuffed old insulation between the wood of the pallet, and then wrapped the pallet in a tarp to keep it dry. Hopefully this will keep things cool better. Of course I needed a nap in the afternoon. Getting up at 4 am will make me crash later in the day. So I slept 2.5 hours! Hahaha. It did me well.
I went for my evening walk and then noticed that Flicka wasn’t herself like usual. She seemed slower, less interested.....not sure how to explain. She was just a little ‘off’ it seemed. I took both horses to the arena. Flicka did trot alongside the fence line so that was good. I sprayed and wiped them for mosquitos as they were horrible. Then I walked them both along side the arena fence, up and down , for a while. Flicka walked fine, trotted a few times too. So I decided to wait and see how she would be in the morning. Later I saw her running behind Freya in the pasture so she did seem better. Maybe she was just tired from the day. Monday morning Flicka was back to her own self again. I was very happy to see that.
I went to get water and it was beautiful on my route to the well. There was a thick mist hanging when I was half way and everything just looked awesome. Of course the world becomes a lot smaller with this mist, but it sure has its charm. It was nice to have everything filled up again and I even did a little laundry for the first time at the cabin. Just by hand and it was fun. I felt like Ma, from Little House on the Prairie. Hahaha. I made a line on the deck to let the clothes dry, but later I had to take it inside as it started to rain inwards the deck. In the afternoon when it was dry I spend some time with the horses again and I just started to remove the bot fly eggs on Flicka’s legs, when it started to rain again. Next time I will finish that.
became a little damp inside the cabin so I decided to lit the wood stove. I made a little fire, just to get the dampness out. Soon it was a cozy 25 C. I really had to laugh when a few hours later the sun came out and helped to warm up the cabin some more. Even though it was only 8C outside this morning, inside the cabin it was still a nice 18 C. In the late afternoon it was dry again and I started to build a hay box for the horses for winter. Then my drill battery died. Aw. Oh well, next time I will finish it.
I had my evening walk with cats and dog, and yay! I saw the fox again. So adorable! He was jumping towards something so I guess he was hunting a mouse. He didn’t catch it from what I could see, but it was sure fun to watch.
