Today I cleaned up more manure from the little pasture. The pile in the south west corner was really big. Probably their favourite poop spot. Hahaha! So I did not finish it today.
It was a lovely day again. I came in the morning and it was just 10 C but soon it warmed up to a nice 17 C. It was sunny, and hardly any wind. Sometimes there was a huge gust of wind though, suddenly, out of nowhere. It made a lot of noise coming through the trees, but in the yard I hardly felt it. But I could hear it coming. It was quiet eerie.
When I drove on the driveway, I was pleased to see the green haze of the new leaves on the trees. This color green you can only see in Spring. The last trees are removed from the new driveway entrance. YAY! I can see this entrance from the cabin. I was surprised that Scruffy didn’t go to the road now it is open. Maybe because she is not used to do that. Which is good. I rather have her stay in the yard. Grass is also growing in the arena now. Just at the end, but I hope soon the rest will get green too. There is rain in the forecast, so I hope it won’t change. The ground really needs a good rain as it is getting really dry.
I heard the Hermit Trush again. I just love the call of this little tiny bird. I hardly see him, just hear his song. So I took a short video to capture this beautiful sound. It’s like he’s playing a flute. Here is the link to this video. Best way to listen to it, is with head phones and turn up the volume. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhEH8Lr0aAo&feature=em-upload_owner
Today I worked for 4 hours in the pasture. Every hour I would take a short break in the cabin, having a coffee or some cool water. Scruffy would stay close to me while I was working, walking around a bit or laying in the shade of the truck. She loved our short breaks. She gets warm fast and in the cabin it was really nice and cool, and lots of water for her to drink. I noticed a tree with white mushrooms growing on it alongside the driveway. It really sticks out now there is no brush and tall grass.
After the work was done for the day, I took some time to enjoy the peace and quiet in the yard. Sitting on the deck with my camera ready and listening to all the different bird sounds. The sun was shining really bright and I saw this beautiful rainbow colour ring around it. So different but not the first time I’ve seen this. It’s very beautiful and the picture doesn’t do any justice to the bright colors of this ring.
I’ve put the sunflower seeds that I planted, on the deck today. It can use the warm sun to sprout. It will help to speed it up. I took some pictures of a few birds. One was a Blue Jay. I caught him right in flight. Another one was the Eastern Phoebe, a little flycatcher. Very cute bird. I also noticed a wood pecker but he was very fast and the photo isn’t the best. Before I went home, I put some water out near the tree line with a rock in it. Little birds can have a swim tomorrow when it gets warm.
On my way home, I drove by that goose again that is still nesting on the side of the road. Amazing that this bird choose this spot. With everything so dry, the poor bird has to deal with lots of dust from cars that are passing by. I wonder what made her decide to choose this dangerous spot to build her nest. Let’s hope when her babies hatch, they all stay safe and get into the water as soon as possible, away from traffic.
