My dear friend Rovena came over for a visit from Wisconsin, USA. I went to visit her last December and it was SO much fun. And this past week was SO much fun again. It was amazing. When we sat down after she had arrived, it was like the past months disappeared. Like we had seen each other yesterday!
What a great time we had. I love the saying: True Friends are never apart. Maybe in distance, but not in heart. It is very true! Talking and laughing just like we always do. Rovena brought us alll kinds of lovely presents. She is such a sweet person and so generous. The dog and cats loved her. Dizzy followed us into the pasture when we were checking the fence in the woods. She got very tired though, because the weather was SO hot. Rovena carried her when she was calling and soon Dizzy would sit on her shoes if she wanted to be carried! What a funny cat.
Friday my friend David came over to bring my eggs and cream I ordered from the farm lady that sells her products in town. David takes those orders in and delivers them to the costumers. He stayed for a bit and got to meet Rovena too. It was a great visit with some interesting discussions and many laughs.
We went to Carol and Melva and see the horses a couple of times of course. Rovena loved Flicka and Freya and the horses of Carol. We had supper and had a great evening with Carol and Melva. On Saturday our bare foot trimster came to do the horses feet and Rovena and I got a chance to have a trimming lesson from her. Rovena was so happy as now she got an idea what to do and can do her own 4 horses with some practice. We also spend a morning with Flicka and Freya for some lunging lessons for Rovena. Flicka and Freya were both wonderful and patience teachers and it didn't take long for Rovena to get a hang of it. Just have to love those 2 ponies.
On Sunday I had to pick up my meat order from the organic farmer Keith, who comes in town once a month for delivery. Carol was there too and Keith had brought his cousin. The 4 of us went out for supper in town and we had a great time together with lovely food.
Hunter got hurt just before Rovena came. Hunters leg seem to get better until Monday. She was limping more and more. We took her home to recover in a quiet and safe environment. Still it got more and more sore so Wednesday we went to the vet to get her checked and when the vet examined her thoroughly, she discovered bites! Poor Hunter got bitten by probably a fox, is what the vet thinks. She was bitten right on the back. She has thick fur so we never noticed the bites and they healed fast too, as there wasn’t any blood on her at any time. The vet gave medication, antibiotics and pain pills that hopefully will help her. She is getting better now. I’m very happy about that because Hunter is such a sweet gentle cat. In August she will go back to the vet. She and Dizzy will get fixed. Hunter is finally at a good weight (she lost a lot last year and it took very long to gain to a healthy weight again) and Dizzy at the right age. So they both are ready. We noticed a strange orange cat in the yard a couple of times. So to avoid any babies, it’s better to have the cats all fixed. Taz is fixed already. She is such a good mouser! Scruffy did chase after the strange cat and it ran off. Hopefully back to its own home. Taz caught a few voles already. They are like a big mouse but short tail. They ruin everything they get into. So very happy with Taz there.
In Saskatchewan and Manitoba was a lot of flooding going on. Many farmers fields were ruined for this year crops. Rovena told me she had some D tours to take and seen the fields flooded so bad. Water often came very close or even over the roads. But the trip went really well. It is a long long drive though. Around 16 hours on the road! But fortunately Rovena doesn’t mind driving and enjoyed the scenery of he trip.
Paul went for a camping trip with 2 of his friends. They went to Calgary for 1 night, and then to Canmore and Lake Louise, in the mountains. They had such a wonderful time and lots of fun. It’s so good for those kids to travel and see more of the world. When he came home again, he brought Dutch sweets for Rovena and me, from the Stampede in Calgary! There was a stand with Dutch products and he got Salt soft Liquorice (zachte zoute drop), Stroop wafels and Speculaasjes (both kind of real Dutch cookies). So thoughtful! Rovena really likes Paul. She said he was such a great kid. She couldn’t get over it how nice and friendly he was and so polite and interested. I felt very proud of course.
Rovena and I spend a night at the acreage and we enjoyed the stillness and mosquito’s. Hahahaha! We had to spray ourselves a lot to keep those bugs away from us. The fire helped a lot too. We had a wine, and some more wine, and some more, and just laughed and laughed about anything and everything. We slept real good that night. Hahaha! We did all kinds of things this week and our time together was filled with wonderful talks and much laughter. Best pain? Belly pain from laughing!! Hahaha! The weather was great all the time. It got really very hot the last few days and it will stay hot for a while. Time went by way too fast but we already talked about me going for a visit again in winter. She has a beautiful place in Arkansas too, and really wants to show it to me. So I really looking forward to do that. I can fly to her and then we drive from Wisconsin to Arkansas. I hope Rovena’s drive back to Wisconsin will go smooth and pleasant and that she will arrive home safe and sound.
Thank you my dear friend, for a wonderful time! Can’t wait to see you again.
