December 5 is Sinterklaas, a Dutch holiday. It’s like Santa, but a little different.
Paul had his work X Mass party on Saturday, and had to work on Sunday, but he still came over before work on Sunday morning for a half hour. So sweet! I got him a few little presents and had made marzipan. I was gone to the well and when I came back, he just arrived and helped me to put the bottles in the cabin. Thanks Paul! That was really sweet of you. Really nice you still came over before going to work.
The days are still so mild and lots of sunshine too. I made another bird feeder. When I wanted to put it in a tree not far from the cabin, a chickadee flew So close by! At one time it landed on my hat, and then I just stood really still and it jumped onto the feeder I was holding and started to eat! WOW! So cool!
The next day I stood next to another feeder and took some seed from it in my hand, and held out my hand. And one of the chickadees landed on my finger and ate from my hand. Awesome, isn’t it? I was so happy! The chickadees are not scared at all. I can be around the feeders and they don’t mind it and still come and eat.
The Gross Beaks are also coming now. They are more shy, but it won’t take them long to feel safe. I could take photo’s of the female and male.
I didn’t see the Blue Jays for a while but they are back and eating from the feeder I put on the water tank. The Downy Woodpecker is a regular visitor in my yard and seem to have still lots of food in the woods. It would be nice to get a real good picture of him at a feeder though.
I spend lots of time with the horses too in the past few days. hanging around with them, brushing and cleaning feet, and circling them at the hill side of the big pasture. There was still sunshine there, so lovely to work with them there. I let them trot up the hill and walk down calmly. It’s good for them to get some exercise plus it was lots of fun for all of us. Freya had SO much energy, and once we were done, I removed her halter and petted her. Then I asked her to walk around me and then trot, without a lunge line, and she did and then suddenly she took of in a real fast gallop, and Flicka went after her. They stopped at the end of the big pasture, and I called them back and there they came, running really fast again. I gave them some crunchies and took my bucket with things and when I drove back to the yard, I honked the horn and ZOOOOF, there they went, following me in a fast gallop again, all the way to the arena. Hahaha, it was so funny to see.
I finished another big mandela. I like how it turned out, with nice soft colours.
Xmass time is close and I put up a tiny fake tree with lights on batteries. The real tree will come, but later. I hung up some bells and Xmassy stickers on the windows. Not done yet, but it’s still early.
I love X Mass time, especially the music on the radio.
It’s nice to have my fire going in the evening, while listening to X mass songs with my little tree lit up.
I just love this time of the year.
