Last weekend it was beautiful weather. Which was great because on Sunday I went to pick up my round pen.
Sheri came with her truck and horse trailer and Paul, who was so kind to come and help, and I got in her truck. Great Sheri took her horse trailer, as that made things a lot easier for loading up the panels.
Carol was already waiting for us and had everything ready. Horses were in the other pasture and gates were open. Wonderful!
With the 4 of us loading didn’t take up much time.
On our way back we picked up Ben, who came to help too. So again with 4 people it did not take long to set up the round pen.
Right before dark we were all done. YAY!
Thank you so much Paul, Carol, Ben and Sheri for all of your help. Very grateful!
We were very lucky with the beautiful weather. It was 22 C in the sunshine! Amazing for this time of the year.
It’s good to have the round pen where I will feed and water the horses. I can also do some work with them right in there. It’s close to the cabin and in the morning and afternoon it has full sun. Nice when it is really cold.
When I let the horses in for the first time they explored of course. But it wasn’t a real big deal for them. They know the pen. But after exploring, Flicka ran fast into the woods, still a little excited. Maybe she could smell Carol’s horses.
It was funny by the way, when we had taken out the round pen at Carols, and Carol let the horses back in their pasture. They started to run around and got all excited! So funny. It was lovely to watch them run around.
Monday I went to the well in the morning. I filled up all my bottles when I came back with the full tank. I emptied the big water bowl of the horses and just use the bowl of the water system now.
Garth came over with Kelly, the snow remover guy. We looked through the yard, to see what I should remove so he can remove snow the most easiest way.
It was really nice weather in the morning, but in the afternoon it started to get foggy and drizzly.
Tuesday I put up an extra strand of electric rope around the west side of the winter pasture. Now it should be clear enough for Freya she can not walk underneath. LOL
It poured during the night and Wednesday morning it was very slippery on the deck and stairs. I put up some salt on the steps. It wasn’t cold and I even could get out in my pyjama and robe to water and feed the cats and horses.
It was a beautiful morning, with light snow, but at noon the wind picked up suddenly and the weather got crazy. We had wind gusts up to 70 km per hour and with the snow that was a white out most of the time. The horses went into the woods for protection. Where they were, there was no wind at all! Also the cabin was well protected for the north west wind.
It calmed down later in the afternoon and I right away did some outdoor chores. After I was done, the wind started again.
I took the cooler inside now, because we get real cold temperatures now. I can make ice on my deck now. LOL
At 10.30 in the evening, the horses came into the round pen and calling me. I gave them more hay and made sure they had water. It was nasty cold out.
The storm went on into the night and the next morning it was still blowing hard. But at least the sun came out.
I shovelled snow away around the cabin and in the yard. I also removed snow and made paths to anywhere I have to walk.
Sheri and Ben came to bring me 6 more square hay bales. I’m waiting for my hay guy to bring the round bales. The roads have to be frozen before he can haul them in. Well, after temperatures of minus 15 C (wind chill minus 25 C) they should get frozen by now. Hahaha.
It was nice that after the storm, I was on my deck in the evening, with a glass of wine. Minus 10 C, but it just felt great without the wind and a beautiful sunset.
My first blizzard in my cabin! Whew!
The stove is going most of the time. In the afternoon I let it die off, and take out ashes before i start it again around supper time.
In the morning I also take out the ashes. The wood stove keeps it nice and warm in the cabin.
Now I should get a convector or convection fan (not sure of the right name). It’s a fan that you put on top of the stove and the heat of the stove makes it turn, and it blows the hot air around in the room.
Now I do that by hand.
I finished my mandela and started a new one again.
So much fun!
I’m glad I can do evening walks again. Scruffy doesn’t like to go but Dizzy did came on one of my walks though! Tough kitty!
The cats are doing fine so far. I make sure they have plenty of food and water and they have good shelter.
But I know they are very happy when that sun comes out!
But aren’t we all when that happens?
