Ah, hunting season is over. YAY! No worries anymore to be shot by accident, when checking fences. Or the that my horses are mistaken for wild life.
Last Saturday evening Paul and I went with David to a dinner + play. Carol, Melva, Karry Ann, Sharon and Graham were also there. What a fun bunch of people! The food was served by the players in costume which was awesome. The play was a murder mystery, and it was so much fun to think about ‘who did it’.
Thanks David, for inviting Paul and me for this play. It was awesome!
Sunday Sheri had a friend with a skid and asked me if I wanted some bales moved around. Of course! Wonderful!
It was done within a couple of minutes. Murray was very handy with that machine and the bales were just ‘flying’ from A to B and all put up straight, so it is easy for me to unwind them when feeding the horses. A few bales are at the round pen for the real cold days. Not sure when those will come, as the weather is just amazing.
I’m happy the bales are all set up at the right spot. Thanks Sheri, for thinking of me, and Murray for doing the job.
Of course the cats LOVE the bales. Now they got places to hide from the weather, or just to play hide and seek. Hahaha!
I got into the routine now of feeding and watering the horses. I got a neat little system when I want to bring hay to the end of the little pasture or into the big pasture. I just tie the ‘tarp bag’ filled with hay onto the truck and drive it to where I will take it into the pasture and spread the hay around for the horses. Works really well! That way they don’t stand at the hay box for hours, but moving around to get the hay. It’s just such nice weather and exercise is good for them.
I made a bird feeder from tree bark and a few peanut rings for the birds. Still waiting for birds to come and eat. I suppose with this beautiful weather they aren’t too hungry yet.
Had another trip to the well on Monday. 17 bottles filled up. I used a lot of water this week so going soon again. The bottles in the back of the truck works well.
Getting them up the stairs is always a hard job, but I take my time.
I’ve cut a lot of kindling and cut the big logs into smaller pieces. I don’t need big logs right now. During the day the stove only burns in the early morning. Then I let it go out and it it again after sunset. Saves a lot of wood and it is just not cold in the cabin. The sun gives lots of heat too. Today things started to melt around the cabin, as it came to 6 C ! Not common for Saskatchewan this time of the year. I mean...it’s December already!
Oh, I took my farm cat Hunter into the cabin though. For now just during the nights. She didn’t seem to be comfortable outside. Just laying on the deck, not walking around or playing like the other cats. She even tried to get into the cabin and so I took her in. She is a very sweet cat, listens really good and is calm. She sleeps most of the time. It did her good as today she even came for a nice ‘winter evening walk’.
If it gets too cold for the other two cats I will take them inside too. But they are doing fine so far. Hunter is just such a delicate little princess.
I changed my grey water system. I moved the gutter a bit and now the water will drain away further from the cabin. I’m glad I still can use this system, as I don’t have to carry buckets down the stairs yet.
If winter stays like this until Spring......I won’t complain! Hahaha!
