A little update.
I was very busy lately and not much time to post on my blog. Also working on my blog through the phone is harder to do. Sometimes i write a post and it never shows up! If this continues to give problems, i might start a blog on Facebook. That has never problems as i noticed with my blog about training Yentl. First of all I want to say how sorry I am for the people in Alberta who are coping with the forest fires. It's scary when it comes so close that a whole city has to evacuate. I did a huge clean up around the yard and still more to do. Miss the snow. It was covering up the mess so nicely. Hahaha. The weather is fantastic. Warm sunny days and the last patch of snow melted yesterday . So to keep my things cold in the cooler im back to frozen water bottles. Thanks Sheri, for letting me use your freezer to put in my bottles. :) I prepared and seeded my gardens. I made a new garden with hay spill for potatoes and put the first ones in. Next week I get more potatoes. I also put in onions. See if this will work. I found peaches and cream corn seed so want to put those in today. My seedlings are growing really well and I start to harden them. For two days it was around 30 C so i kept it cool in the cabin by closing the curtains but today it will be around a nice 20c and i can keep the windows open and get the seedlings used to the outside temperature. In a few days i will put them outside. It's so beautiful to see everything getting green again. Green grass and yesterday the leaves on tbe trees opened up. What a gorgeous bright green color! I did a lot of manure cleaning in arena, little pen and the winter pasture. I love the Health app on my phone. I walk between 6 to 12 km a day ! Just feeding horses and doing chores. I don't use the wood stove as it stays very comfortable in tbe cabin and no need for a fire. All animals are happy with this beautiful spring weather. The cats stay outside now 24/7 and Scruffy loves to roll in the grass. She has trouble going on long walks though. She really gets old. Her legs can't do what her minds want. So i just keep our walks together short. Going up the ramp even is a hard job for her. Poor girl. I give her pain killers with her breakfast and it helps her to feel comfortable. But she loves to be outside and sleeps often under the cabin on tbe cool sand. I am looking around for another outdoor dog. I do need one for sure. The horses are happy to graze again. Slowly I feed less and less hay. Probably next week they will be only on grass. Im going to start soon with fencing at the winter pasture. I got some fence posts to start with. So summer will be a busy time with everything that has to be done. But SO looking forward to it! I really enjoy sitting on my deck in early morning with my coffee and after sunset with a nice herb tea. The nights are clear and the stars are so bright. Lovely. The quietness here keeps amazing me. No bugs yet! During the day there are lots of house flies though. Tick season also started. Less fun! Hahaha. But there is spray for that. Lol. Training Yentl is going great. She comes running when I call her and she follows me around. So cute! She lives our clicker training sessions. Very eager to learn. I can touch her neck and rub her forehead now. Slowly we're getting there. My new phone is awesome and such a good battery life. Photos and videos are great. I use it for my blog and Facebook and to text or email my friends and especially my penfriend Sheila. We email almost daily. She lives in Kansas in the US. Such a kind and fun lady. My first Spring is just lovely. What a joy to watch all the changes in nature. Soon it will be 1 year anniversary. June 1 I live in my cabin for a whole year. Wow! Time goes by so fast. Have to celebrate this anniversary! :) Had a big post done but it never showed. So trying again. My phone broke down and I had to get a new one. Lost all my contacts so that is a bummer. But I will see if the photos will be easier to put in now. :) The weather is gorgeous. :) The trees start to bud out and the grass is growing. Lots of cranes flying over the yard and the hawks are everywhere. I even saw a few butterflies! I started cleaning up the arena and half of it is done now. Today Sheri and I picked up a few hay bales. I have enough hay now to feed the horses until they can graze full time. The big pasture hardly has any snow on the ground and I will put the temporary posts in and fence the adjacent part of it. It worked really well last year and they can graze there soon. Gives the other pasture some rest. I raked the hay spill next to the round pen in two piles. I will spread that old stuff in the winter pasture as fertilizer. It's so nice to have my morning coffee on the deck. This evening I had my supper also on the deck. watching tbe sunset and listening to the birds. Taz was after a grouse but it was too fast and too big for her. It flew away. :) It's amazing how long the days are getting now. My whole routine is changing. In winter I would go to bed so early , and now I'm up until almost midnight at times. Hahaha, everything changes with the seasons. Even my bedtime. :) I had a great weekend. Friday Paul and I went with David, Sharon and Graham and Michael to a supper and play. So nice to see everyone again. The supper was great. Lits of different salads and meat and lovely desert. The play was well done with great costumes and effects. It was called Animal Farm. I was up since 5 am and the play was not finished until around 11 pm. I almost fell asleep at one time. Hahaha. Yesterday I went home in town. On my way, close to the dam, 8 deer crossed the road and ran towards the river. Awesome to watch. Paul and I did more cleaning up in the house. I also got my groceries and the mail. Yentl is settling in very well. She likes to follow me and is curious about anything that's going on. I closed the arena because I want to clean up the manure. Today I went to the well with the big water tank. First time this year. During the trip I saw two times a fox. Also the Red Robins are back. I cleaned up the big water throgh and all hoeses wrre hanging around with me. Yentl was so curious! She loves to play with water. Splashing with her nose and pawing with her foot. After an hour I was done and then I filled up 12 bottles for tbe cabin and 3 for tbe horses to fill up the tub when needed. Nice to be able to use the big tank again. It only takes 5 minutes to fill it up. It just takes a while for the tub and bottles. But it was such a beautiful day so while filling the bottles I sat on the tail gate in the sunshine. The turkey vultures are back. They will nest in the woods here again. So cool! A few big flocks of pelicans flew also over today. I always recognize their sound. I hear them sooner then that I see them. Paul came for a visit with his dog Sammy. She's such a cutie. She livez to come here and tries to play with Scruffy. Sometimes she runs around the cabin at full speed. Scruffy can't keep up with her. Hahaha. Old lady. Paul and I took both dogs for a couple of walks. Sammy enjoyed running in the woods and on the driveway and yard. So much energy! Scruffy did her best to keep up but then did her own thing. Sniffing around and take it easy. Hahaha. She's too old for that now. After I spread the hay around in the pasture and then Paul and I sat in front of the cabin in the sun with a nice cool ice tea before he went back home. Great visit! Thank you Paul, for putting the bottles in the cabin for me. You're a sweetheart. :) I'm keeping the cats outside during the day now. Yesterday Dizzy was outside all day but Taz and Hunter stayed in the cabin. When I came back from town I found a mess. They had tbrow over my seedling containers with herbs. Ugh. What a job to clean that up. I ended up with putting all the potting soil in one large container. Mixed herbs. Hahaha! I will redo the small containers again. Cats. Just have to love them. Dizzy caught 3 birds and two mice while she was outside so more cleaning up to do. She just leaves them in the yard. Hunter brings anything she catch to the deck. She likes to give me presents. :) I also put the solar power system back to the fence of the summer pasture. The horses will stay there so better make the fence wire hot. Yay! It is time to start seeding indoors. So much fun! I started: tomatoes, pumpkin , water melon , red and white cabbage, egg plant ,celery, leek ,pepper, squash, Romanesco broccoli, red scarlet runner bean and plum trees also from seeds. Not sure if that will work. Have to find out. :) The herbs are : parsley, sage ,lovage ,chamomile, sweet basil , summer savory. Other herbs and vegetables I can start once the ground can be worked on. The cabin is now filled with lots of seedling containers. Hahaha. So much fun! Yentl settled in very well. She is friends with Flicka and Freya. She's a brave little horse! Not much scares her. Just with people she is cautious. When I was giving Flicka and Freya a horse crunchy, she took one from my hand. She knew by watching the other two that is was something good. Flicka and Freya really are a great help in the trusting process. She feels and sees they are very comfortable with me and she becomes more and more relaxed around me. I started clicker training with her. She did awesome with targeting. Ladt night I went for my evening walk and she followed a long time alongside the fence. On my way back she was eating hay and I talked to her. She came to the fence and for the first time I could pet her forehead. So awesome! She is progressing so fast. She could end up into a in your pocket pony. Hahaha. She was even bossing the other two around and kicking because she wanted my attention all to herself. Not that they were very impressed by her behavior. Hahaha. It's so much fun to work with Yentl in short sessions. Between doing my chores I go to the arena when the horses come in and play a bit or just sit and talk with the horses. Im sure Yentl is chased and pushed a lot in her past. She will learn I will never do that. I leave it up to her how far she wants to go. Her feet are very long but I hope within 3 months to be able to get her trimmed. The cats are back to mouse hunting. Snow is melting so fast so mice are moving around more. The weather is gorgeous the past few days. Spring is really here now . I have seen lots of duck flying over the yard and a grey heron and a big flock of pelicans too! Bald eagles come in the yard pretty often too. They fly very low and its a beautiful sight. With the warmer weather and snow melting , the driveway has some huge puddles. Little lakes. Hahaha. In the small pasture a little lake has formed and the horses seem to like it. I saw the skunk again yesterday morning. He was walking out of the woods and when he wanted to go on to the driveway, he suddenly noticed the 3 horses. Hahaha, he turned around so fast and ran off back in the woods with his tail straight up. Funny. It's lovely to sit on my deck again in early evening with a glass of wine, just listening to the birds and watching my little herd of horses in the pasture . I feel so happy and very lucky! :) Yay! Yentl is home. Everything went smoothly. She loaded gently via a shute into the trailer. During the trip she was great. No panicky stuff. Unloading went just as smooth. She first looked out of the open door, then carefully put first obe foot out on the ground, and then stepped out and walked into the arena. Sheri had backed the trailer right to the arena gate so that was awesome. Sheri , thank you for your help! I admire your skills with the horse trailer. :) Yentle is settling in nicely. Eats her hay, drinks her water and had her meet over the fence with Freya and Flicka. A few squeels from her part but that's normal. Flicka likes Yentl a lit and hanfs out by tbe fence with her. Freya is not sure. She doesn't like it when Yentl squeels. Hahaha. Yentl smelled my hand and followed me alongside the fence. If I had oats she would have taken it from my hand. She doesn't like crunchies and apple. :) She is doing really well. Im sure we all become great friends. She seems to love the curtain. Nice to know that it doesn't scare her at all It looks like she finds comfort in the straps on her body. Maybe it sooth her. For now we just take our time to get used to each other. So much fun to just sit next to the arena and watch her eat and looking at me. She comes pretty close to me already. Very happy! |
