On my way back to the cabin I saw 2 deer in an oat field and 2 in a canola field. I could take a picture of the ones in the canola field, but I had to be quick. They were jumping away real fast. I unloaded my things and opened up all windows in the cabin. It was very hot inside. I had a wine, and sat on the deck to relax. It was a busy day and went to bed not too late, to have a wonderful sleep.
The next day I unloaded some pallets that I got from a local store in town. I’m planning on building another shed. I have so much stuff that needs a place to store. Pallets are great to build stuff with. And it’s free so why not, right?
When I was walking around the yard, I heard lots of Blue Jays. The babies were leaving the nest and flying from tree to tree. I could capture some with my camera. What a noisy bunch they are though. Hahaha. So funny.
The horses are still grazing in the temporary area I made, but soon I will have to move it up. I checked the fence in the woods. All was good. I noticed that the grass was growing well in the pastures again because of all the rain we had, so now I can let the horses just once a day in the grazing area.
I went to the well. The horses water bowl needed to be cleaned and filled up again. I went to the care taker of the well to pay my one time ‘friendly fee’ as I call it. I don’t really have to pay it, but I want to. It’s such a little amount and I can get water as much as I need. Had a nice visit with the care taker. They had some dogs there, and one of them was a beautiful Irish Wolfhound. What an amazing dogs. he was very friendly, and so huge! His back was as high as a dining table. LOL
After, I went to the well. It’s a nice route, crossing the Assiniboine river and beautiful oat and canola fields. I stopped so now and then to make some photo’s. It was such a beautiful day and I was not in a rush, so I made a nice trip out of it. Once back at the acreage, I cleaned and filled up the horses water bowl and all the bottles and what was left I filled up the rain barrels for the garden. My rain water barrels behind the cabin are all top full, so I have plenty of water for the gardens. But now we get lots of rain on a regular base. LOL Oh well. I’m prepared for when it’s not raining for a while anyway now.
I worked with the horses a couple of times too the past few days. It’s so nice to just pick a moment when it’s not too hot. Sometimes I work with them at 7.30 am, other times at 8 pm. One time I was just saying hello to Flicka. Freya was grazing in the little pasture but Flicka was in the arena, standing at the gate, just staring at the cabin. Waiting for me to come out. And when I did get on the deck, she was calling me. So cute. Can’t resist that so I went over and we had a real nice quiet moment, just standing together, me petting her and talking to her, and she just loved it. Another time I was cleaning up some things around the arena, when they both came in. I played with some orange rubber cones I have. Put them on their backs and against their feet, and petted them when they would stay calm and relaxed. Not one moment they spooked. Just curious what I was doing. LOL Also played with Flicka with the ball. i would kick the ball and she would follow it and touch it with her nose and push it away. It was so cute.
Thursday evening there was a thunderstorm coming in. It was heavy. Beside the pouring rain, the lightening was very close. At one time all the hairs on my arms got straight up when it flashed. Bbrrrrrr. Scary! It lasted for around 2 hours, then it passed. It really cooled things off which was nice. Plus the gardens were all watered again too. The rain barrels were over flowing. My fence battery is empty so I have to charge that. Mean time I put my solar powered fence charger on it. I finished my flower pot holder. it’s simple but cute. I put some lemon leaf in the little flower pot and it looks nice. I tried to engrave on a piece of log that I had sawed off but the piece split. LOL Not the right kind of wood to use the shivel I guess.
Last night I went for a good brisk walk. I had a 3 hour nap so I was very fit and full of energy. I really needed some exercise. I used the walking sticks for cross country skiing as a support. That way my arms also had a good work out. Even though they are not real walking sticks, it worked just fine. Of course Scruffy and the cats went with me on my walk, even though it was all around the yard. It started to get dark so I preferred to stay close to the cabin.
The Blue Jay babies left the nest. What a noisy bunch! LOL But it is really nice to see the whole family flying around from tree to tree. But together with the young crows that are flying around, it sure can be loud in the yard. Hahaha! It is a lot of fun to sit on the deck and watch and listen to all the birds. And as soon the sun starts to set, they all quiet down, except for the Hermit Trush. That one always is the first to sing in the morning and the last in the evening. Really beautiful.
