Today my woodstove is installed. YAY! I’m so very happy.
Paul and Brenden picked up some patio stones and concrete sheets. Before Brad and his helper arrived, I had put the moisture barrier on the walls, and Paul screwed the concrete sheets on the walls in the corner. We will need more sheets though. Just for safety it’s better to cover that whole wall where the woodstove stands. Then the boys put down the patio stones.
It was a big job to get this very heavy stove up the deck stairs and into the cabin. I was very grateful that Paul and his friend Brenden were there to help the two handymen. Brad, one of the handymen, said that without their help they wouldn’t be able to get the stove up. It’s amazing what muscles can do. I’m also glad my stairs didn’t collapse under all that weight! The men worked like 3 hours to get the stove and chimney installed. It’s almost all finished. Just need some things for on the roof and the top part of the chimney pipe needs to be boxed in. Brad will come back next weekend to do this and some other things too. He will make my cabin safe and anchor it for me plus he will put supports underneath the cabin to attach the joists onto the heavy beams where everything is resting on. He is also able to make the holes in the big tank for the grey water. It is SO nice to have someone that has good carpenter skills and is handy with many other things too. Thank you, my dear friend Carol, to bring me in contact with Brad.
Paul, Brenden and I also have worked on putting the moisture barrier up to the rest of the walls. Only one and a half wall to do and then that part is done too. Thank you Paul and Brenden, for all your great help. You guys are awesome!
Yesterday my barefoot hoof trimmer came over to trim Flicka and Freya’s feet. My girls did very well. Flicka was almost falling asleep while being trimmed. Such a good girl. Freya wasn’t falling asleep. In fact she had a little too much energy to stand still for a while and got a bit grumpy, so I lunged her for one minute and that helped a lot. Both girls have beautiful hooves again. Thanks Katelyn! You did a great job again with the horses. It was a very busy but fulfilling weekend. Another step closer to living off the grid! YAY!
