A couple of days ago the weather was warm and very windy , with wind gusts up to 60 kilometers an hour. We had rain too which was great to water the gardens and fill up the rain barrels.
There were two tornado touch downstairs in Naicam, a town not far from Saskatoon. Nobody got hurt though. Fortunately here we got only threatening clouds.
The trees sure can need all the rain they can get to recover from the tent catapillars. New leaves will grow in hope.
The rain took care of a lot of bugs so now it's not so bad for flies.
Sammy is doing great here.
I set up an agility course for her and she gets very motivated to run the course when I reward her with treats or a toy.
In this course is set up traffic cones for slalom , a water obstacle, 3 jumps and a hoop to run through. She loves the water obstacle.
I take her for long walks and when the cats follow, I keep her on the leash. She does very good on the leash but loves to run free. I taught her to fetch and most of the time she brings back the tennis ball or other toy. She is a very strong willed puppy though. If she doesn't want to do something then she won't. Hahaha. She's very cute and listens quiete well, loves to be brushed and is easy to take off ticks. She has drops but after a walk she still picks them up from the high grass.
Scruffy comes for short walks. She can't do long walks anymore and has trouble at times to walk up the ramp. She needs some help with that when she's tired.
I give her pain killers daily to keep her comfortable. Her mind wants to do puppy things but her body can't anymore. Poor dog. But she is doing ok as long she takes it easy.
The cats come to the cabin now in the evening after Sammy is in the kennel. During the day when Sammy is loose they stay away in the woods or around the arena. It takes a while before they get used to Sammy and Sammy still tries to chase them if she sees them. She comes right back when I call her though but still for the cat that is chased that doesn't help. I just hope that they learn to live together in peace. Sammy doesn't want to hurt them but just likes to chase. She does the same with butterflies and dragonflies or beetles. She's a real puppy. Hahaha.
The swallows have their nest made and used Sammies hair that they found from brushing , and horse hair. The horse hairs are hanging down from the nest. Funny. Like decoration. Hahaha.
It was so funny to see them flying with a huge fluffy ball of dog hair in their beaks.
My gardens are doing great. I counted my potato plants. Got 73! Lots of potatoes when harvest comes.
The beans and peas are in bloom. So nice to see that.
The asparagus seeds I planted are popping up. First I thought it was weeds but then I checked it online and they are tiny plants. It will take 3 years before they give but that's fine. I'm happy they came up.
I finished the Art puzzle. So much fun! Now I started one of a castle on a hill.
It's nice to puzzle a bit on hot afternoons.
The first day of summer had a beautiful full moon. Last time there was a full moon on solstice was I think 70 years ago. I've read it was a once in a lifetime thing so I'm glad I've experienced this.
Yesterday morning it was only 4C ! But it warmed up really fast. I love the cool mornings. :)
When I wanted to go outside yesterday, the door locked itself and I couldn't get the door open. I took the lock off so I could try to open it from the inside of the mechanism but couldn't get it unlocked. I texted Sheri and she came over , armed with screw driver. Lol. She could open the lock from the outside and we were trying to get the lock working again without success. So input a rage in the hole so flies don't get in.
Paul was home so I texted him and asked if he could get me a new door knob. He came within an hour and put the new door knob on. Everything works fine again! Thank you so much Sheri and Paul , for helping me out. : )
I have another door in the bedroom but still have to build stairs there. So its 4 feet of the ground and ok for emergency exit with a ladder. But not for daily use.
So that was the excitement of the day. Hahaha.
I'm happy it's now all working fine again.
Horses are doing great. Working with Yentl on leading now. I had two sessions with her and am teaching her to walk calmly with help of a target. She got that really quick. She has lots of energy but I don't want her to walk ahead of me. Now she learns to control her speed impulse a bit.
She is a fast learner so she will get there. :)
So summer is officially started. Looking forward to enjoy the days and to see my vegetables grow.
Can't believe that the days are shortening niw though. Spring went by so fast! :)
