Spring thoughts in Winter.

        Hi!

My first post in this new blog. Exiting! And of course I will talk a little about the weather. Here in Saskatchewan, Canada, winter is always a bit chilli. But this winter it is extremely cold. As I'm writing this first post, it is minus 25c, wind chill minus 35c! There is a warning out  for the wind chill that will go down to minus 44c! Bbbbrrrrrrrr. No fun hey?

So I'm longing for beautiful Spring. Trees with leaves, warm sunny days, green grass, no half hour of getting dressed before going outside....yeah, I'm so ready for Spring.

Not only because of the weather change. But also because of starting with the build of my little solar cabin. Fun Fun Fun! There is so much to think of, so much to figure out. It's not like oh...let's put a little house on a piece of land. No way. There is months of preparing before that. But...that is a lot of fun too.

I looked at cabins that were to be moved, I looked at RTM homes, I looked at trailers ......but nope. It wasn't what I was looking for. It is very expensive to move a building from A to B. I rather use that money for something else. So...my choice? I'm going with a garage package, converted into a cabin. It just seems the best way to go. So I'm orientating, looking around what is there, and hopefully I can make my choice within a week or two. I know what I want. It will be a 24 by 32 cabin, white siding, dark blue tin roof and plenty windows. It will have 3 bedrooms. Not huge, but enough space to sleep in comfort. One bathroom with a simple shower. I get hot flashes so no bath for me. Hahaha! There will be a nice living room and an open kitchen with a cooking wood stove. Yes! I'm going to cook on a cooking wood stove. It took me a little while to decide between the wood cooking stove or a propane stove. I was so much in love with the idea of a nice wood stove where you can see the flames and sit in front of it, warming up after farm chores in minus 25c......but that is not what it is about. I need to be (and want to be) practical. A woodstove in the living room will take up lots of room. And I need anyway room in the kitchen for a stove. So...putting in a wood cooking stove will keep the house warm, I can cook and bake with it, and it saves me lots space  in the living room. So yes. A wood cooking stove it will be. If I can find one. :-)

So in Spring the building will start. But...also something else will start: preparing and seeding the vegetable garden! That is so much fun to do! I ordered heirloom seeds for my vegetables and herbs. Yes. I will make a beautiful rock herb garden too! I love rock gardens and I love herbs. So there we go, two in one. It will be beautiful. I will have to start some plants indoors, which could be quiet the adventure here in my town house. Because I have 4 cats running around, and one of them is only a couple of months old. I'm sure they all will love to dig their little claws into my pot soil. Hahaha! Life is full of challenges, isn't it? Still...can not wait to make my fingers dirty while seeding  some of my heirloom seeds and also have a head jump with my Sunflower seeds. LPine Meadow's entrance needs her sunflowers.

Saskia, I know this is not what you ended up doing but we'd run into the same deal with the expense of moving but also at the time we actually were looking at something much bigger than cabin size; we hadn't quite wrapped our head around that yet, but our movers we had told us that's what we really needed to see about and one close as well, since we live on a mountain and all that we had found before were off the mountain so getting them up here was really adding to the expense, but then just the perfect place - 22x40, 3 br, came available, just around the corner from our acreage! perfect, cost way much less than all the others we'd found to move to our place

Donna, you are right, I ended up with something different. Sometimes we have to go with what works best and what is there. If you have a blog Donna, I would love to read yours. Just email me at rbdock@accesscomm.ca
