YES! We had lots of rain in the past few days. I’m so happy. My rain barrels are full full full! I can water the gardens for many times now. With all that rain, everything is growing fast now. The grass is growing and my gardens are doing really good too. The Red Scarlet Runner Beans are flowering. Hummingbirds will be so happy! The few Swish Chard I have, are very colourful and growing big too. Soon I can eat those. My pea plants have peas! YAY! What a good rainfall can do. Amazing. I opened up one pea pod and mmmmmm.....even though still tiny, the peas taste wonderful. Soft and sweet! I love raw peas straight from the plant. They are just the best.
On my way to the acreage a few days ago, I made some pictures of geese families in a dugout I always pass. Big families! It’s cute to see them all in a row. The canola is in bloom almost everywhere now. What a beautiful sight!
I fixed the gate to the temporary grazing area. It’s working again. It was out of the top hinge, but I got it back in. I let the horses out for the first time to graze there, and at first they were like, oh ok, we can graze. It was getting pretty low in there, but I extended the area to double the size. So I brought them to the lusher area and they were SO surprised and happy. In no time they ate half of the alfalfa that was growing there. So funny to see them with a full mouth of long stems of greens.
I went for a walk with Scruffy and all cats. Yes, even Polly! She now dares to come on short walks but slowly she goes further and further with me. She calls me all the time though, so then I have to wait for her until she catches up with me. Then she is so happy, and running around the higher grass and playing with the other cats. I also did a long walk in the early evening with Scruffy and of course the farm cats. It was so nice and cool outside, after all that rain. I went through the trees at the hill side again. It was so beautiful! Wild flowers were blooming everywhere.
It’s amazing how the cats follow me, through the hills and trees. They really enjoy the walks and run ahead of me, up and down hills. So cute! When I came back to the cabin, my shoes were soaked. Hahaha. I should have wear boots as the grass was very wet everywhere.
Yesterday morning I saw a mule deer grazing at the end of the property, where the new driveway entrance will come. They are beautiful animals.
I finished the book ‘Silver’ by Hilma Wolitzer. It was a real nice novel about a married couple that struggled with the relationship. I really enjoyed reading it. Now I started to read three novels in one book by Catherine Cookson. The novels are :
The Love Child
The Maltese Angel
The Year of the Virgins
So far I enjoy it.
Between the rain showers I worked with the horses. Flicka is doing so well. We are now working on walking straight when side passing. She would ‘drag’ her hind too much, but she’s getting it now. Also worked at the gate again. She is doing so well with that. With Freya I worked on lifting up feet and keep balance while standing on 3 legs. Also she likes to back up when lifting up a foot when nobody is holding her on a lead rope. So we practiced standing still while lifting a foot. She did good, but needs more work. I also free lunged her for a few minutes. For a Fjord horse she got a lot of energy. She ran around and changed directions through the deep sand in the arena and it didn’t slowed her down a bit. Hahaha! I think she had fun. When I finished the session, she came to me and I petted her for doing so well. She is very playful.
A hummingbird came visiting again. So lovely! I was sitting on the deck with a nice herb tea, when he came flying up to me, looked at me for a bit, then flew around the cabin. I hope one day I am able to make a little video. But I have to be fast because they are speedy. Hahaha!
