I had some wonderful days and nights at the cabin.
It’s great to see my horses before bed time and when I get up in the morning. I look out of my window and can see them. Awesome! When I walk up to them, Freya nickers and Flicka gets exited. They love their attention. One afternoon they were just standing at the water bowl, looking at the yard, sometimes Freya would nicker. After a while I thought I will go over and put them in the arena for a bit. They were SO happy! I opened the gates and in they went. Walking around, finally moving after standing so quiet for most of the afternoon. I got some cones from my friend Rovena, so I was happy to finally use them. I set them out and of course Flicka was knocking them over. Hahaha! Lovely Freya was touching them gentle , and waiting for a click and treat for targeting. So I played with them for a bit, and between did some simple basic stuff like backing up, disengaging hind and fore quarters etc. They know all that stuff but seemed so happy to show it off. LOL After an hour of playing I let them go back in the pasture and after they had a drink, they went back to grazing. Very happy horses.
Paul came over to show me his new truck. We hauled some water at the well, and on our drive I noticed a big moose going into the ditch and woods. Paul was very exited because he saw two babies with the moose! I missed them, but was so happy he could see them. Maybe next time I’m lucky too! LOL Even though they are big animals, they can be fast.
I’ve seen a huge deer in the back of the pastures. She was so beautiful! But of course jumped right into the woods as soon she saw the truck coming. Hahaha! Have to be so quick to catch a photo. It really is turning fall here. Some of my trees loosing leafs and the nights are cooling down. Geese are gathering everywhere and the flocks that fly over get bigger all the time. Sign of Fall.
I love to sit on my deck, watching the sunset. The birds are singing their evening songs, and then suddenly they all agree it’s enough and it gets very quiet in the yard. The only sounds I hear are from coyotes hauling and barking. I’m enjoying a glass of wine and the night sounds, while Dizzy is sitting on my lap, purring away. The cats and the dog will sit with me on the deck until it’s too dark to sit outside. Then I take Scruffy in the cabin. She is an indoor dog, even though she loves to be out. The cats stay outside. They have their blankets on the deck and will sit there, until it’s time for them to move around and catch mice and moles. Sometimes I find a catch in front of the steps. Taz always likes to give me presents. Ahum. Hahaha!
I got a whole truck load of wood of an apple tree that fell over in the yard of friends of mine. They called me to ask if I would like some and so I drove over to pick it up. At the acreage Paul helped me to unload the wood and removed the leafs as much as possible. Now I’m slowly cutting the wood up in pieces. It’s fresh so it will have to dry before I can use it for the woodstove. It’s great! My first collection of stove wood for next year.
I cook meals on my little propane stove. One burner but it does the job. I also have made a salmon salad, using 3 different kinds of lettuce out of my garden, and put in some tiny baby carrots in there too. Wow, that was the best salad ever! I picked the tiny water melon that was growing in the garden. Paul had seen it had a crack so better pick it before it got eaten by ants or birds. It was just a little crack. I cut the melon open, took all the seeds out to save for next year, and tasted the fruit. Wow! That was SO sweet. Of course it was only 2 bites. But it was my own grown tiny water melon. LOL In the evening I listen to the radio, do some texting on my phone and a little internet. Not much, to save the batteries of phone and laptop. The cabin is lit up with solar lights that are charged during the day. They are great and give light all night! I have some lights on batteries too, for more bright light when I need it. But most of the time the solar lights are doing great and gives the cabin a very cozy look. Just perfect! Around 10 it’s my time for bed. Even though it gets cool at night, under the blankets I stay nice and warm. Scruffy is sleeping on her blanket. She snores sometimes. LOL I fall asleep while listening to the stillness of the night. It sure is a new way of living! And I LOVE it
