Thursday October 15 it was two years ago my beloved husband Ron passed away. I still miss him. He’s always on my mind and I still feel him around me which gives me lots of comfort. But there are so many things I would love to share with him, experience together. It’s sad that is not possible anymore.
The fall is just amazing.
There are nights with light frost, but as soon the sun is up, the temperatures rise and it’s not strange to get up in the morning with minus 3 C ( and me having my woodstove going) and at noon it’s 19 C.
Saturday and Sunday the temperatures in the sun was 35 C ! Like a beautiful summers day. Just without leaves on the trees and no mosquitos. Hahaha.
I got a very productive weekend. I made my horse watering system for winter. I can water them now from my deck. It will make winter a lot easier on me.
I also improved my grey water pipe system. It works better now to get rid of my grey water from the deck. Only until it freezes during the day but still it’s nice to have now.
I fenced off the winter pasture yesterday. It was the most perfect day for it. Sunny, 19 C, no wind at all. Beautiful!
Taking out all the posts from the grazing area I made the last time, was a lot of walking and carrying the step in posts.
I was thinking how to avoid this walking up and down so many times and I came up with a great idea. I used a tarp that I folded halfway, tied it together at the corners, and stapled it on the sides. Now I could slide in the posts and drag the tarp with all the posts I needed. How easy! Much better and it saved me many miles of walking.
The area I fenced off contains lots of trees and hills, with beautiful spots where the horses can shelter from wind and stay warm in the sunshine. There is still lots of grass, so of course they loved it.
I only let them graze for a few hours the first time. I will let them in longer every day to graze during the day, but soon they will stay in there until Spring.
I’m glad I am able to rotate.
I just fenced it all off with one strand of rope and the temporary fence posts.
In the future I can always put in wooden posts, but this is fine for now.
Saturday it would have been Ron’s birthday.
I suddenly got the urge in the morning to make a nice pasta salad and mashed potatoes with parsnips and onions, topped with grated old cheese.
In the evening I went to Sheri and we watched the movie Australia together, while eating the pasta and mashed veggies and a sausage. I had a wine too and it was a very nice evening. Sheri had made a wonderful desert too! I know Ron would have loved it for me to have a pleasant evening to celebrate his birthday.
Thank you Sheri for this lovely evening.
I worked with my horses a couple of times this week too. Brushing, cleaning out their feet, and doing some agility. Freya walks now through the curtain when I ask for it, and Flicka can back up through the curtain now. With Freya I put her halter on with lead rope, then asked her to follow me through the curtain. She did without hesitation. So I took the lead rope off, asked her to follow me, an d again, no problem. Then I removed her halter, and she followed me through the curtain at liberty with confidence.
So much fun to be with the horses.
I noticed the fox again in the grazing area, when I was putting it down Saturday.
I must have spooked him as he was running away really fast.
I also met my neighbour Melinda from the north side when I was removing the posts from the other grazing area. We had a nice chat and this Wednesday she will come over for a tea. So nice! We know each other for some years now, but it’s always nice to catch up a bit.
After so many sunny and warm days, it’s a rainy day today. I’m glad, because the grid roads got way too dusty lately. It will freshen up everything and I love the smell of the woods after a good rainfall.
