With the scaffold out of the cabin, I could finally finish the kitchen floor. It’s now covered with osb sheets. Just a few pieces to do to have the whole floor done. It was terribly windy Thursday and Friday. Gusts of 68 km ph they said on the radio. The cabin was shaking at times. Of course some pieces of the insulation underneath the floor, that wasn’t covered in plastic yet, came loose and I had to crawl under the cabin again, armed with a stapler, to grab the pieces, put them back and staple them tight. I didn’t trust it would hold this crazy wind that was roaring underneath the cabin. I took some left over pieces of wood and screwed them onto the west side of the cabin to break the wind. The wind can still go through, but not as bad as when it was open. The insulation held. Later that day I took the generator out of the garage. Even though the garage was protected from the west wind, I didn’t trust it. Once I would open the front, the strong wind could just lift the whole thing. It was dry weather, just windy. So I let the generator run while it was standing outside the garage and kept the garage front closed. In the evening when the wind slowed down, I put the generator back in.
I started with the bathroom. I attached the counter to the wall, and made one leg for support. Took me while to get the counter up and get it level with one hand, while with the other hand screwing the little wooden block onto the wall underneath the left side of the counter. LOL But I got it done by letting the counter lean a bit onto the little step ladder. Now I could measure how long the leg had to be. I cut a piece of leftover wood to size, and screwed that to the corner of the counter. Hm. It was a little too short. Lucky I had some shimmy’s that I could just shove underneath the leg and after that it wasn’t ‘floating’ anymore. LOL
I also made five shelves in the bathroom. Nice to have a place to put stuff. I cleaned out the bedroom as a lot of things from there could go on the shelves or underneath the folding table in the kitchen. Next step is making shelves in the bedroom.
I noticed my kindling got quiet low so I started to pick the pieces around the cabin and when the ground was cleared, I took the wheel barrel and went around the yard and behind the arena. Lots of little dead branches. They are great to start a fire with. When I was done, I had a barrel full again. I will collect more and store it. And if I run out later I can always make kindling from the logs I have. Just cut them small with the axe. I had a couple of great days at the cabin again and lots of things done.
Friday was my birthday and on Saturday Carol organized a lovely party for me at her farm. It was so wonderful to spend the evening together with friends. I was spoiled so much with a beautiful meal, a lovely cake WITH candles and amazing and funny cards, kind words and beautiful presents. The evening flew by so fast and it was getting pretty late when Paul and I drove back home again. Photo's will follow. :-)
Carol, thank you so much for organizing this party. You are awesome!
And to all my dear friends: Thanks for being there to celebrate my 55th birthday. It was amazing and I had the best time ever!
