After some more light night frost, I decided to clean up my gardens. I took out the sunflowers that never got to blooming. Too bad. I removed all the Amish Bean plants and anything else that wouldn’t grow anymore.
Only potatoes, parsnips and some carrots left to get out of the ground. I wait with that as long as possible.
I emptied the rain barrels behind the cabin. Lots of water came from it, but I let it run off with hoses. It took a few hours before they were empty. I have to do it once more, before hard frost comes, because we had rain again so they filled up again a bit.
I finished cleaning all the siding. I had all the long pieces done but lots of short ones still had to be washed. I sorted everything to size and put them aside the cabin. Glad that is done. That was a hard job!
The weather cooled off and we had some rainy days too. Glad I got the wood stove. My neighbour Ben will clean the chimney for me before winter hits. I just need to get a chimney sweeper.
Ben also will remove the old barb wire from the woods at the north side. Once that is done, I can put the horses there to graze and also during really cold days in winter they can shelter as this part has big trees and spots that are really deep down, and protected for wind. When it’s really cold, the sun will warm those spots up. Perfect for the ponies.
I made a new temporary grazing area for the horses. I extended the big pasture. I use electric poly rope this time, so it’s hot wire. But I only used one strand, as they won’t get through it. For the night I keep them in the permanent pasture, just in case wild life will knock the step in posts over.
The horses were SO happy to get in the new pasture. Flicka was galloping and bucking, so excited she was. Even Freya started to run around. So nice to see them being happy.
It’s one kilometer from the cabin, so I drive the truck to go and open the gate in the morning to let them in there, and before dark to get them out of there and close it up again.
I made different gates for the stairs. I used the old wooden gate we had at home in town for the bottom and a piece of lattice for the top. It looks better and easier then that snow fence.
Scruffy is doing really well. Today I didn’t gave her any medication and she is doing great. We went for a good walk again and she was so happy. As were the cats. They all missed it to go for a nice walk together.
I’m so happy it’s getting better with Scruffy. She doesn’t like it she can’t go with me to the well or to home in town. But I make sure she got a good walk before I leave so she will sleep most of the time when I’m gone.
After not hearing him for many weeks, I heard the grouse yesterday again. He’s making those ruffled sounds with his wings to protect his area or to attract a female grouse. He was so loud that I could hear him while being in the cabin, WITH the radio on! So funny.
When I was checking the north side woods for old wires, I came across a grouse. He was picking bugs out of the grass, then walked deeper into the trees and bush. Good birds to have!
Since I was spreading out the manure last week, I have trouble with some muscles at my left ribs. Very annoying, especially in the morning when I can hardly move that part.
Lucky there are pain killers, and once I take those, it’s going well. I must have stretched those muscles badly.
I just take it easy for a while, let it heal. It’s hard sometimes to watch what my body can do. Especially when having so much fun with throwing horse poop around. Hahaha!
