The seeds of the Spinach and Celery were all dried in the white shelter and I have put them in foam cups. Then changed my mind and made envelopes so it’s easier to store in my plastic seed boxes. I will have lots to grow next Spring.
I also did my first vegetable harvest and made a big pan of the most delicious vegetable soup ever. I put in potatoes, parsnip, swish chard, red and purple carrots, onions, my only beet and young red scarlet runner beans. I still had tomatoes and green pepper in the cooler, and added that too. Put in lots of different herbs, pepper and salt, and yummy! In no time it was smelling SO great in the cabin. No better way to get a homey feel to the cabin as the smell of fresh vegetable soup. It tasted as wonderful as it smelled.
The melons are growing really well. Maybe with some luck I can harvest them. Soon I will have to harvest the potatoes and parsnips, and the corn too. Night frost isn’t far away now we’re in September.
Because it was quiet warm lately, I didn’t do too much. Just relaxing once my chores were done. I did a lot of drawing and colouring mandela’s. So much fun to do. Mean time I listen to my favourite music on cd’s or the radio, or I listen to howling coyotes outside. On Thursday I bought a cooler. My little foam coolers started to crumble and this one is a real good one. It supposed to keep ice for 5 days and so far it still has ice in it, and now it is Saturday. It’s also easier to handle then the little coolers. I can still use my underground cooler of course, for when I have no room for certain things that I don’t use daily.
I also went to the well this week and everything is filled up again. It’s always nice to have the bowl of the horses cleaned out again and filled up with fresh water.
Yesterday I moved the grazing area up again. There was so much grass and weeds there, a waste to leave it. Well, the horses were really excited when going in and walked all alongside the fence line and then started to graze. I let them in there for an hour, then took them back in the pasture. it is a lot of grass there, so I want them to eat it not all at once.
Last night I went to bed early and when I woke up at 4.45 am, it was still pitch black outside. Hm...I forgot how we get shorter days now. The good thing was that I could watch the beautiful sunrise while having my coffee on the deck. This morning I saw the little fox sleeping. It was so cute! I didn’t go for my evening walks for a while now, because of the awful mosquitos. It was unbearable to walk during sunset. Even with spray on, I would be covered in no time. So I skipped the walks for a while, enduring the sad looks from dog and cats while they would wait for me to go. Aw, it’s hard to see those hopeful faces. It’s cooled off quiet a bit now, so the evening walks can hopefully be picked up again.
