On my way back to the acreage last Saturday, I noticed a fox on the road. It went into the ditch, walked a while, then it stopped to smell the flowers. Hahaha! it was just nibbling and playing with one of the canola plants in the field. So cute! I could capture a few pictures of this fox. When I continue to drive, I saw 2 young foxes playing in an old farm yard in the high grass. i stopped the truck but they ran off into the trees. But it was so cute to see them running and jumping.
In the early evening I went for a walk and when I came along side the temporary grazing area, I heard a loud yelp, and a young fox ran across the little pasture into the woods, yelping and yelping. Why was it yelping? Because Scruffy was walking right where this young fox was laying between the high alfalfa! What did Scruffy do? nothing. I don’t think she even heard this fox yelping. She was just busy with smelling the area where the fox probably was before. Hahaha! So I saw 4 foxes within 2 hours time. They are so cute to watch. Well, it was sad that the last one was so scared. But also funny. Scruffy is not something to be scared off. Hahaha.
For a while I noticed a bee that comes and goes from the deck. Now I finally found out where it goes. It goes right beneath my door. It found a crack and has a nest there now. It’s a honey bee, and I read about this kind of bees. They don’t seem to be aggressive and won’t sting unless threatened or squeezed or so. So I just leave her be(e). LOL Too many bees are dying already and I don’t want to kill any if I don’t have to. She is not bothering me.
Sunday morning I went to see the new puppy of Carol and Melva. Oh my....what a darling! He is just so adorable! Puppies are just so cute and so funny. It was a wonderful visit and it was also nice to see Carols horses again. But Carol, you have to watch your puppy. I could steal him! Hahahaha!
I was just back at the cabin when it started to pour outside. Great for the gardens! It kept pouring on and off until evening. Strange weather. Paul texted me later that a tree branch broke off and fell on his car. Oh dear! So I called the town and hopefully they will remove any other loose branches from this old tree. I went for an evening walk with Scruffy and cats, alongside the pastures. The horses were following me, and I was picking long grass on the way and gave that to them. I went alongside the big pasture and the horses were acting a little goofy at the cross fence. I kept going. I was like, if they want to follow, they can walk around and go through the gate. Then suddenly I noticed 2 moose at the end of the big pasture. I took photo’s but they are not very clear, as it got quiet dark already. They were moving towards the driveway, my direction, so I waved my arms, and then they ran into the trees towards the road. I rather don’t encounter them up close. They can get vicious. I walked back again, and then I noticed that the cross fence was broken. The middle wire was loose and the post at the gate was all bended inwards. Oh boy. It was getting dark already. I thought that the horses had pushed through the wires. Later I discovered moose tracks along side the cross fence, so it wasn’t my horses. A moose pushed through it. I took the horses into the arena, walked back and fixed it so it would be good for the night.
The next morning I repaired the wire, put wire tighteners on 4 wires, and had an extra fence post pound in next to the one that bended inwards. The second one will keep it straight. Well, as straight as possible. After I checked the voltage and amazing, it was even more then before. Hahaha. I also checked the fence in the woods but that was all just fine.
After all that work I was hungry. I picked some lettuce from the garden, and peas and chives. In the morning I had boiled some pasta and that was cooled off now. So I made a lovely pasta salad. it was So yummy! I made lots so I had enough for supper time too.
When I was doing dishes later, I looked outside my window and saw a momma deer with two babies coming into the flower garden! That was SO amazing. I made a short video, and lots of photo’s. But what a joy to see them walking around. Momma deer was very nervous though. So after i think 10 minutes, she decided it wasn’t a safe place and took her babies back into the woods. I couldn’t believe that I saw them. What a lovely babies! I’ve seen lots of baby deer before. most of the time in a ditch alongside the road when driving. but I never saw them like this. I had a walk after supper in the back of the acreage, and another walk at sunset alongside the driveway. Dog and cats were running with me, even Polly came along again! But she did hide in the bush when I went too far for her. But when I came back, she ran out of the bushes and joined me again. Silly kitty. When I came back, I fed the cats and after they ate, they dropped down on the deck. They were tired of our two long walks today. Hahaha. The wind had finally slowed down. It blew like crazy the past few days. I poured myself a glass of wine and sat on the deck for a long time, watching the sky getting darker and the tiny half moon getting brighter. It was a beautiful evening and everything was real quiet. What a joy! A perfect ending of the day.
