YAY! I have a couch! Monday Paul and I took the 2 seater from home to the cabin. I really needed a comfortable place to sit. Sitting on a kitchen chair all the time is not very relaxing. Hahaha! Of course the cats like the couch too. They love to curl up on it and sleep.
I moved the kitchen table in front of the big window. Now I have a dining area and a sitting area. Paul helped me out with some things. The little camper is held by two grippers on poles. One of the grippers came loose so that is dangerous. If I get in it could tip over. So he fixed that. Happy happy happy! He also cut up some kindling for me. He loves doing things like that. Kindling goes so fast. Never can have enough of that. Paul also put up my solar hanging light. It has a long cord so you can hang it anywhere you like. The charger is on the south window and the cord reach all the way to the couch in the corner of the living room. So that is great. At night I just turn on the light and when I go to bed, I turn it off. During the day the battery charges. It is a good light. It stays on all evening. It’s not bright, but just enough to see what you’re doing. I think these are great. Paul stayed until it was dark enough to use the light. He wanted to see how much light it would give. LOL After he went home, I did dishes and cleaned up a bit. Then I watched a movie, read a little and went to sleep.
Tuesday I was busy in the morning. I dug hole that I will use as a compost hole for human waste. I got an older but good window that I can put on top of the hole. I will make something where I can empty my toilet container and I need to put in a small pipe for air, to release gas that will be formed. The window is to let the sun come in to warm everything up, so the compost process will go faster.
When I was done with cleaning up in and around the cabin, I went to the well for water. When I came back, I filled the horses bowl up with fresh water and took the rest to the cabin for my own use. It was a beautiful day. I got lots done and in the afternoon I took some time to relax on the couch. I read and then fell asleep. LOL
I woke up suddenly from the generator going. I was like huh?? Who started my generator?? I went outside and there was Garth, the RM guy, with his truck with his own generator, drilling holes in the grey water holding tank. LOL So nice! I talked with him for a while and then went to feed the horses. I took the horses into the arena and spend some time with them. I think they loved the weather. The snow was melting everywhere and around the cabin it was all gone at the end of the day. When I came back at the cabin I took a look how Garth was doing. Oh dear. His cord of the drill got swirled around and it broke at places. So he was fixing it. After 15 minutes he got it fixed and finished making the holes. When he left he said he would come back one day to make a connection for the sewage pipe that goes into the tank. Very kind of him to do this for me. I told him that when he came again, he should take his wife. He said: Oh yeah, you two will drink wine, watching me working. I said, of course! LOL
Wednesday the weather wasn’t as nice anymore. It started to snow in the morning. Not much, just a light flurry. But it kept going for many hours and turned into rain. Carol and I were planning to get the firewood. Around noon the weather didn’t look too bad so we decided to go. She would go from her place and I from mine and we met at the turn to the wood place. It had stopped raining so that was good. Melva came along and with the three of us we got the two trucks loaded in no time. I got great presents too! Two more water bottles, a fire place set and 4 shelve racks. I’m SO happy! At the acreage I got the wood stove going again, and then we unloaded the trucks. We just threw everything on piles. I would stack it the next morning. After we were done we visit for a while and then Carol and Melva went home.
Thank you so much Carol and Melva, for helping me with the wood and for the wonderful presents. Awesome!
After they left, I turned on the generator for a bit. I watched a movie and charged my phone. After one and half hour I turned the generator off and watched part of another movie until the laptop died. LOL It was time for a wash, brushing my teeth and for bed.
I slept great and woke up at 6 am. My morning routine is getting dressed, get the metal bucket from outside and empty the ashes from the day before on the ash pile, fill it up again with ashes from the stove and put it outside again. Then make a fire and mean time boiling water for coffee. While I drink coffee, I feed the dog and cats and give them fresh water. After my coffee I do the dishes from the night before (unless I did them already). Normally it’s light when I start with that, but this morning I was up so early, so had to do it with help of some camping lights, that run on batteries. Great lights! I have like 4 of those but with one or two it is light enough to do things. Once the stove was going well, I went outside. I fed the horses and checked their water. There was a little ice on top but they broke through it themselves, pushing it open with their nose. I removed all the ice pieces.
After the horses were done, I started with stacking up all the wood. I had one break between, to have a drink. After 3 hours I was done. Everything was stacked and covered with a tarp where needed. I should have enough wood for a long long time. I don’t know yet for how long. Another adventure. LOL
I had a quick lunch and then cleaned the cabin. When walking in and out of the cabin, me, the cats and dog, we take loads of sand in. So I had a whole dustpan full of it after I swiped the floor. It’s like living on a beach. Hahaha!
