Friday I went home again. I do a lot of stuff when I’m at home. One is charging my batteries. Any batteries that can be charged. LOL I also do my laundry, get any groceries that I need, get the mail and do my blog. Also , not to forget, having a nice shower. When I went back again, I took all 3 cats to the acreage. Of course it is always somewhat stressful for them to be in the kennel in the truck. Only Taz couldn’t care less it seems. She is such a brave cat. At the cabin I let them all out in the yard. Right away they started to explore, but it really didn’t take long for them to feel at home again. They know the place. The only new thing to learn now is that they have to stay outside and are not allowed in the cabin. It didn’t take long though. A few times a soft shoo, shoo, and they just understood. The next morning I let Polly outside the cabin too when she wanted it. There was some growling, some hissing, but nothing spectacular. They have so much space, no need to feel trapped and get into a fight. I forgot to mention the last time that when I sit on the deck, a few times now a hummingbird will fly by and stop right in front of my face, to observe me, then fly away again. Well, I have some feeders for the hummingbird and I found special food mix. So I emptied what I had put in (sugar water) and replaced it with the ‘real stuff’. It gives a bright red color which is very attractive to hummingbirds. Well, not even 5 minutes went by and there was this beautiful little thing, checking it out. First he came from the right side, just peaking around the corner, then flew around, and peaked around the left corner. It was just so funny! I did not get to see him drinking from it, but I hope I will soon and maybe can take a picture. He’s just so fast. But beautiful, green with a bright red chest. And the sound....wow. Like a gigantic bumble bee. Hahaha. I really can recognize the sound when he’s around. I figured out something to keep my flower garden watered. I used to throw out the grey water, the water from dishes, washing, etc. But what a waste in this dry period. So I have a garbage can beside the deck and any grey water I throw from the deck right in there. Later I water my flower gardens with this water and wow....things really started to grow now! A good use for used water. I made a book shelve in the living room and also a shelve in the kitchen. Just to be able to put some things away. It looks not too bad , even though just simple. It does the job for now. Saturday Paul came over with his friend / colleague Dustin, on quads. I was surprised the horses didn’t freak out from the noise. They were just curious. It was a nice visit and great to meet Dustin. They helped me to get the big water tank in the back of the truck. I wanted to get a load of water from the well the next morning. Paul and Dustin went for a little swim after their visit in the Assiniboine River, just a mile from the cabin. It was so hot and they were dusty from being on the quads all day, touring around. Sunday morning I went to the well to fill up the white water tank. I took Scruffy, and once there I let her out for a run. I thought it could take a while. But it was done in no time and I had to look for Scruffy. I knew she heard me calling, but she got really sellective hearing at times. She really went for a good run. Hahaha. But once I started the truck and drove a little ahead, she came running out of the woods. Good to know for next time. Scruffy can stay in the truck. It took me the rest of the morning to clean and fill up the water bowl for the horses, plus fill up the bottles for the refilling, and the garden garbage cans. But it was great to be able to water the gardens generously and still have plenty of water left for another time. It was very smoky at the acreage in the afternoon. Not sure where it came from. I can’t believe farmers are burning fields this time of the year. Maybe it came from forest fires. there is many going on up north. In the evening Paul came over again and brought me extra ice for in the cooler. He also brought me the last of the plants that were still at home. Thanks Paul! You’re a wonderful help and always enjoy your company. Paul left after a short visit and I sat on the deck until the sun was all done and gone. I just love to sit on the deck with a tea or a glass of wine. Listening to the wonderful sounds of the coming night. And have my little meet with the hummingbird. Even though it’s getting hot in the cabin, with all the windows open it stays ok. The bedroom is amazingly cool to sleep in, even on a day of 31 C. I think because I keep the windows open, but the door is closed and keeps the heat from the south side out. It’s nice to have a short nap and not being half cooked. LOL Monday I started with digging a hole for the cooler. Had to stop when it got really hot outside. I needed a Siesta. Hahaha. I read most of the afternoon and had a short nap too. It was too hot to do anything so time to relax. Finally in the evening we got some rain. Not much, it started with hail. Dog and cats looked for shelter right away! Silly dog, she went under the 5th wheel instead to come into the cabin. Hahaha. Panic. It didn’t last long, then it was dry for a little while, then it rained again. Not long, 10 minutes I guess. Everything smelled just SO good outside now. What a beautiful smell. And there was a rainbow too! I grabbed my camera and went for a walk. With dog and cats. Hahaha. Cats like to follow me anywhere. I like to go for walks in the evening, but this was a treat. It cooled off nicely, a beautiful sky, the rainbows (it was a double at times)....just amazing. Then I was halfway the driveway, it started to rain again. Ok, I got soaked a bit. Hahaha. It felt great though! Nice and cool after a whole day of heat. I sat on the deck again until sunset after my walk with a hot chocolate. Just felt like it. This morning I was up at 5 am. And before 7.30 am, after my morning routine (wash up, dishes, feed animals etc) I had the cool room made for the cooler. I’m very curious how this will work. It would be nice if this ‘underground fridge’ works, so I don’t have to worry about getting ice so often.
